Federal Data Infrastructure Monitoring: Federal data is a valuable public resource, but it's under attack. I'm the technical cofounder of projects like dataindex.us (currently a finalist for the 2026 Association of Public Data Users Data Integrity Award) and essentialdata.us — projects that monitor America's public data landscape, tracking when federal datasets change, disappear, or get discontinued without public notice. The work gives researchers, advocates, and the broader data community visibility into what's being lost. Featured in AP, NPR, Bloomberg, and more.
Dockless Bikeshare: In the early days of Dockless Bikeshare in Washington, DC, I did work that helped inform the decision making process for whether to continue the pilot, starting from some high-level policy questions and some data that no one had ever really worked with before.
Immigration Law & Policy: Partnering with an immigration law non-profit, I've done a number of projects in support of their work (both for public consumption and for use in their legal work):
Scraping and visualizing USCIS data on DACA recipients
Building and analyzing datasets to obtain a deeper understanding of the demographics of refugees from countries affected by various shifting immigration policies
Scientific Publications
During my time working in computational geophysics, I authored/coauthored a number of scientific publications. One particularly nice example of cutting-edge work on reservoir saturation prediction was this Barents Sea Case Study. Check out Google Scholar for a full bibliography.
Hobbies & Side Projects
Wearing Wiki: With a friend, I created Wearing Wiki, a reference site for babywearing techniques using woven wraps. The project improved the accessibility of instructional information for caregivers of all body types and abilities.
Bees: One of the least techy things I do is keep bees! I take a natural approach in my apiary, but I was recently invited to dress in a costume inspired by my favorite federal dataset for the launch of the Federation of American Scientists Data Policy Institute. I'm (bee)suiting up and handing out this postcard to share my deep appreciation for the USDA/NASS bee and honey surveys, along with the critical research done at the Bee Lab (much of which is initiated by what's found in those surveys).
